From a pioneering start-up to Uganda’s leading PET bottle recycler — built on quality, integrity and a belief that waste is a resource.
Standard Manufacturing Ltd (SML) was established in 2012 with a clear goal: bring professional, industrial-scale plastic recycling to Uganda. At the time, most collected bottles left the country as unprocessed scrap — the value, and the jobs, went elsewhere.
Today we operate one of East Africa’s most capable PET recycling facilities in Wakiso, near Kampala. We buy baled bottles from a nationwide network of collectors, process them on two washing lines and a granulating extruder, and export finished recycled materials to manufacturers in more than 15 countries.
We are a Sedex member, certified by NEMA (Uganda’s National Environment Management Authority), and currently completing RecyClass certification — the European standard for recycled-material traceability.
To collect and recycle plastic waste from across Uganda and neighbouring countries — creating employment, protecting the environment, and supplying the world with quality recycled raw materials.
To make Uganda a continental leader in circular plastics: reaching European-level collection rates, expanding rural collection centres, and processing scrap from land-locked neighbours like South Sudan and DR Congo.
Integrity in every trade. Environmental and social responsibility. Consistent, efficient, high-quality production — verified on every single lot we ship.
International buyers need more than promises. Our operations are open to audit and backed by recognised schemes:
Uganda has one of the world’s fastest-growing populations and economies — and its plastic consumption is growing with it. We invest continuously in new equipment, collection infrastructure and people, so that recycling capacity grows faster than plastic waste.
